Rach spoke about the loss of Hugo and the importance of learning CPR as a life skill.
Learning to resuscitate is an important part of Laurie Lawrence's "kids alive-do the five" program. (see http://www.kidsalive.com.au/)
A lady who attended has written a letter to the editor of the local paper - here is what she said
Learn CPR in two hours- a skill for life.
Last night I met a remarkable woman by the name of
Rachael. This lady has recently lost a very special person in her
life and her family, but through her loss has found a way to help
others.Rachael told her story to 25 strangers, me among them, of
how her son lost his life to drowning. The message she got across to me was that
children can be so quick, mischievous and of course can never be replaced once
gone. Her main aim in my opinion was also to share with people
the importance of learning CPR and how that could make a huge impact on someones life.CPR is a skill for life, and could save someone, friend
or foe, but the amount of people that have no idea how to perform this
skill is scary.I luckily have never had to perform CPR on anyone but if
faced with the situation I can only hope that the skill I have learnt will be
put to great use.And also if I was to need someone to perform it on me,
I and my family would be grateful that the person has taken the time to learn
how to do it.You can learn CPR in about two hours and if that two
hours can save a person's life it is the best two hours that you could have
spent.I thank Rachael again for her courage, determination and
strength.
